About the Area

The village itself is a busy walking, fishing, and equine centre with several pubs and a wonderful village shop which has everything you will need and is open every day of the week. For the children there is a large village green and you can enjoy a latte or pizza at the Exford Bridge Team Rooms. Bruce makes a mean breakfast too and is always very welcoming.

Recognised as an area of outstanding beauty, Exmoor National Park covers 267 square miles and sits across Devon and Somerset. This unique national park is spectacular with 34 miles of coastline, large stretches of high reaching moorland, magnificent coastal woodlands and the highest cliff faces in mainland Britain.

Exmoor is worth visiting at any time of the year. For those who love a leg stretch, the area has some of the best walks on offer. Perfectly geared up for families with kids big, small and young at heart, there are lots of wonderful engaging attractions locally to keep everyone happy.

If you’re happy to drive a little further (circa 30 miles) there is Putsborough Sands, which is renowned as one of the cleanest and most beautiful beaches in the Southwest. There is a delightful shop and café along with extensive parking for day visitors and all the facilities you would hope to find at such a destination. It’s a perfect spot for family fun, swimming, and surfing. Nick Thorn Surf Coaching run by Nick is a great place to head if you’d like to have a go at Surfing. They offer all levels of sessions for beginners through to advanced surfers.

Wildlife lovers will adore getting up close with Exmoor’s most famous residents, the friendly Exmoor ponies at the Pony Centre. You can even enjoy wildlife from the skies and below the seas at the Combe Martin Wildlife Park or Ilfracombe’s great aquarium.

If Golf is your thing then Manor Green offers two putting greens for adults, children, and families. There are also tennis courts along with rackets and balls for hire.

Both Lynton and Lynmouth are a 30-minute drive from Exford and the scenery on the drive really demonstrates the craggy and dramatic Exmoor coast of North Devon. You can wander the charming streets of these villages to shop for locally made arts and crafts, gifts, or clothing. Enjoy a cream tea, delicious cake or a freshly made lunch in one of the many local cafes and pubs.

The Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway is a unique and unforgettable experience as one of the world’s oldest and steepest water-powered railways, this historic marvel is a testament to Victorian engineering and ingenuity.

Watersmeet is a former fishing Lodge located near Lynmouth and is the starting point for some 40 miles of woodland, streamside, and seaside walks. It boasts a wonderful tea-room and is an information centre too.

Dunster Castle and Arlington Court offer enriching history lessons and beautiful gardens are a real treat to explore and get lost in. An ideal spot to while away a whole day learning a little about the history of Exmoor and seeking out a fantastic cup of tea and some cake to refuel.
